A collaboration between the St. John Henry Newman Institute and Sophia Institute Press
Thanks to a strategic grant from the St. John Henry Newman Institute, a new educational tool introducing children to the Traditional Latin Mass is now available through Sophia Institute Press. The Beginner’s Guide to the Traditional Latin Mass is a ten-lesson, interactive workbook designed to immerse students in the beauty, meaning, and sacred heritage of the Church’s ancient liturgy.
This resource would not have been possible without the financial support and shared vision of the Newman Institute, which identified a clear need for high-quality, age-appropriate materials to form the next generation in the Church’s liturgical tradition. By funding its development, the Institute helped bring to life a product that will serve Catholic educators, homeschoolers, and families alike — nurturing a deeper understanding of the Traditional Latin Mass among young learners.
Through engaging lessons on Latin prayers, sacred postures, Gregorian chant, vestments, incense, and the liturgical calendar, students are led into the heart of the Church’s worship. The guide emphasizes the Mass as the re-presentation of Christ’s sacrifice, celebrated in a spirit of reverence and wonder. Whether used in a classroom, parish setting, or at home, the workbook equips children to enter the liturgy with understanding and love.
As Catholic education continues its renewal, tools like this are essential for cultivating both spiritual depth and cultural continuity. The St. John Henry Newman Institute is proud to have made this resource possible — and to continue championing efforts that restore the sacred to Catholic formation.
